Virtual EM was awarded an STTR Phase I contract by U.S. Air Force for developing an RFID sensor for detection of Biological Warfare Agents (BWAs). The sensor will utilize aptamers designed to detect specific agents such as anthrax or small pox. University of Michigan is developing the sensor front-end, which will be integrated with Virtual EM's RFID technology for stand off detection. Boeing Corporation will provide the oversight of the technology development and support for Phase II proposal preparation.

Virtual EM was awarded a SBIR Phase I contract by U.S. Missile Defense Agency for developing Support Vector Machines (SVM)-based space-time adaptive processing (STAP) algorithms for identifying and isolating decoys from actual targets in likely missile attack scenarios. University of New Mexico is developing the STAP algorithms while Virtual EM is providing full-wave modeling of attack scenarios for training the SVMs.

Beta 0.7 update of VirAntenn software is available to interested parties for testing and evaluation subject to ITAR restrictions. VirAntenn offers a fully-functional 3D GUI for geometry capture and simulation for modeling complex 3D antennas, large finite array of such antennas and the prediction of the antenna pattern when mounted on an aircraft, ship or ground vehicle.

Virtual EM was awarded a contract by REMEC Defense & Systems (San Diego, CA) to develop a Phased Array Design and Simulation software based on the existing VirAntenn software. The software will be able to model sub-arrays, digital Time Delay Units (TDUs) and Phase Shifters as well as to predict the effect of manufacturing tolerances (via a statistical model) on the performance of the array.

Virtual EM exhibited VirAntenn software at the Navy Forum in Washington, DC. Dr. Tayfun Ozdemir, President of Virtual EM, presented the technology behind VirAntenn software to attendees, which included major defense prime contractors.

In a follow-up to the ATRB presentation by Virtual EM, U.S. Navy's PMA 263 registered "Endorse" vote while PMAs 201 and 265 voted "Interest" on Virtual EM's technology (regarding the VirAntenn software). Virtual EM will be engaging PMA 263 in the coming votes for in depth discussion on adoption of VirAntenn for modeling of UAV communication hardware.

The software was funded by U.S. Navy under a SBIR Phase II contract and Beta version is the Phase II deliverable to the government. VirAntenn offers a fully-functional 3D GUI for geometry capture and simulation for modeling complex 3D antennas, large finite array of such antennas and the prediction of the antenna pattern when mounted on an aircraft, ship or ground vehicle. Software is equipped with the advanced full-wave and asymptotic modeling engines provided by the Ohio State University and Applied EM, Inc., respectively.

Virtual EM was recently awarded an STTR Phase I contract by U.S. Navy for developing space-time adaptive processing (STAP) algorithms for detecting maritime targets in littoral waters. University of New Mexico is developing the STAP algorithms while Virtual EM is providing full-wave modeling of targets for evaluation of the algorithms.

Alpha 0.3 version of VirAntenn software has been released to U.S. Navy for testing and evaluation. Beta version is expected to be released early 2006. The software is being funded by U.S. Navy under a SBIR Phase II contract and Alpha release is the YEAR 1 deliverable.
